powdered carbon FAQs
Powdered activated carbon (PAC) is a kind of activated carbon in the form of fine particles, usually with a particle size of less than 0.18 millimeters (80 mesh). Due to its fine particle size, powdered activated carbon has a very high specific surface area and excellent adsorption performance, which can effectively remove pollutants and harmful gases from water and air.
Powdered activated carbon is usually made from natural organic materials (e.g. wood, coal, coconut shells, etc.) through a high temperature carbonization and activation process.
The production process includes the following main steps:
- Carbonization: The raw materials are heated at high temperature in an anaerobic or anoxic environment to decompose and form primary carbon.
- Activation: Through chemical or physical methods, the chars are further processed at high temperature to form a large number of micropores on their surface, increasing their specific surface area and adsorption capacity. Our wood powder activated carbon is made by phosphoric acid activation method.
- Crushing: The activated charcoal is crushed into fine particles to make powdered activated carbon.
Powdered activated carbon is mainly used to remove organic pollutants, odor, color, chlorine and other harmful substances from water. Its high specific surface area and rich pore structure enable it to effectively adsorb and remove these pollutants and improve water quality.
Drinking water treatment: It is mainly used to remove organic pollutants, chlorine, odor and chromaticity from water to ensure that the water quality meets the drinking standard.
Wastewater treatment: It is used to remove organic pollutants, heavy metals and other harmful substances from industrial wastewater and municipal sewage, and to reduce the pollution load of wastewater.
Powdered Activated Carbon (PAC) is widely used in water treatment, air purification, food and beverage processing, etc. due to its efficient adsorption performance. Proper use of PAC can ensure its adsorption effect and treatment efficiency. The following are the detailed steps and precautions for using powdered activated carbon:
- Determine the dosage
- Preparation and dosage
- Mixing and contacting
- Separation and filtration
- Treatment and disposal
Precautions for using powder activated carbon:
Dust prevention measures: Powdered activated carbon particles are fine and easy to generate dust. During operation, dust prevention measures should be taken, such as wearing masks, gloves and protective glasses to prevent dust inhalation and contact with skin.
Fire prevention measures: Powdered activated carbon is flammable and should be kept away from ignition sources and high temperature areas during use and storage. Ensure that the operating environment is well ventilated to prevent dust from accumulating and causing dust explosion.
Storage conditions: Powdered activated carbon should be stored in a dry, cool and ventilated place, avoiding direct sunlight and humid environment. Seal the package to prevent moisture absorption and pollution.
